Stimulus Plan: Food for Thought...

I actually heard a really good commentary on the opposition to the stimulus plan and the almost unanimous contention to it in the house and senate by Republican representatives (which was something we discussed in class). It was theorized that the Republican Party has quietly agreed to immediately oppose big issue bills that cross the senate and house floors for the simple reason of limiting the power of the Democrats early on and diminishing the momentum generated by BOs race to the White House. If they were to instantaneously concur with the Democratic platform it would not only solidify the perception of complete negligence in the previous administration by the American public, but effectively demolish their future bid for not only seats in the house and senate, but also for the successor to BO.

Seems probable with the way our 2 party system functions. Not even the threat of economic meltdown is enough to put aside petty differences... what do you think?

While we can never know peoples' motives, it does appear to be a concerted effort to do something. Some would say a concerted effort to preserve the free market, but it might be a concerted effort to thwart the popularity of B.O.

It does not surprise me to here that the Republicans are up to no good. It's unfortunate that the majority of the people are going to suffer behind immature politicians, or better yet behind politicians who thinks only of themselves (including social class) and big businesses. Unfortunately they are crying for more tax cuts for businesses; stating it will give incentive to create more jobs. Maybe so, but will it give them a sense of decency and pay their employees what they are worth instead of the bare minimum. History has shown they only look out for self. So, why would anyone believe that tax cuts for businesses will help the financial crisis? If you ask me, all it does is line the pockets of the wealthy.

it really is sad to see the rest of us suffer because of their greed. to think they pretend to care for us just to gain popularity status.

Do we think that it should be known by all Americans, however, that less than 20% of this trillian dollars will be spent in 2009 on stimulus? Should call the remainder of the bill what it is, which is not stimulus? Or should we just go along with it becaue the experts say that we need to do it and we need to do it all right now?

It is sad that as a country we have to deal with the repercussions of voodoo economics, aka "The trickle down theory". Have we not seen time and time again that this theory is completely bogus. It does not work, and know our country is in the midst of our 3rd republican recession. When are people going to learn from past mistakes?

Like spirit said, we can never know peoples' motives. But I think that we cannot help but try to rationalize what is going on and why. I think BO is aware of the possible motives of the Republican Party and that is why he is focusing on unity and the re-building of America, instead of pointing fingers and attacking the negligence in the previous administration. I personally agree with B.F Pinkerton about the real motives of the Republican Party. And want to add that not only are they not willing to admmit their wrongs, but they want to make them right on their own terms. Meaning that they cannot hand the idea that the Democrats would came in to clean up the mess they have created.... Because the one thing we can all agree upon, Republicans, Democrats and all others is that we are in an economic mess! And that is clearly an understatement.

All I know, is that something needs be done to help all these people that are losing their jobs ASAP. Call it stimulus or not. I hope they will soon receive the aide they need.
