I've been having a problem with the terminology of Bergers sacred Canopy or its just I don't understand it enough to find it interesting. So I have been looking for a dumb down explanation of it but have yet been able to find one. I was wondering if by chance anybody could give me tips on the theory. thank you

I sympathize with your plight. I think he is just saying that each one of us has a "sacred canopy", and that is a set of beliefs that we hold to as truth. It's a "canopy" because it kind of clamps down on our perception. Can you find a couple of sentences that support that? I think it's a whole lot of words to say that.

Then, if you agree to that, consider if any of the links about the credit crisis, Obama speech, or the rant against the stimulus are attempts to create new canopies - or are they, themselves, canopies?

also, Google Peter Berger and Sacred Canopy - there is lots. It's perfectly ok to use web material - just cite it.

Thank you for the help for the paper just answered the first question which was supplied from the class notes on whether or not the canopy changes once the individual knows about it.
