Freedom

Have you ever sat down and thought about having freedom? whether it is at home, at work, at school, on the street or even just the illusion of what it means to be free? It did not occur to me that i have so much freedom in this country than what my parents had in their country when they were growing up until we had the discussion in class on Thursday. i can honestly say that i take allot of the things that America offers its people for granted. i have freedom of speech, religion, thought, sexual preference, education, so on so forth. I'm sure other countries have their own "freedom" rights, but America seems to cover all the ones that directly matter to a citizen. sure there are flaws in our constitution and some of the things do not make sense to us, because it was written so long ago, but it touches on allot of things other countries do not even consider to be a right for a citizen. the bill of rights amends all the rights i listed above plus many others. I'm lucky to live in this country and be able to express all the things that matter to me freely.

A group is defined in part by shared values. For the past 10 years we have been talking about and experiencing "diversity" because of migration and population and legal patterns of the times. Diversity is wonderful because all peoples are wonderful, but it can also blind us to what we share, which is being human. The human seeks to be free, because we are made of freedom, but the human also needs to be a Meadian "me" because we need each other and hence must respect each other. The values (constitution) of America express the best of those two truths. Miss Liberty-the feeling of balance (justice)-welcomes all to share it, because we all do share it, although we are not all conscious of what we share and that we share it.

I do believed that we have several ways of obtaining freedom in this country; however, sometimes its hard to remember them because of eveything that its happening in today's society. Its difficult to believe in freedom when rights are being violated and when things go bad for others but we need to have faith in ourselves. We are the future and maybe if we believe in change and try to do things differently, just maybe "freedom" would be more meaningfull than just words.

I agree. We are so quick to judge our country and its flaws, but we rarely stop to think about all of the advantages we have by living here that we wouldn't have living some place else.

generally i think we as humans tend to acknowledge what we don't have but forget to appreciate what we do have. it's like we're never really happy with anything...always wanting more.

I concentrate more in the freedom I have within my reach. I'm free to feel and think any way I want. Thinking positivately helps a lot when dealing under stress. Feeling good, and thanking for what we have also helps in our daily life. Let us attract the positive...!

wow i want to quote Angela88 "I'm free to feel and think any way I want." That is a handy way to think of it, i.e., not to have "positive thinking" as another "should" but, rather, to see positive thinking as the nest of freedom.
