heated discussion "n" word

Just something to think about...

I was at work and I read something out loud from a magazine article with the n word. My coworkers are mostly black/ African-American and I am Mexican.

Also at work, a Mexican-Chinese coworker constantly tells her boyfriend to "go eat some beans"

what happened when you read it aloud, apple?
"go eat some beans" is kinda-sorta funny and cute and shows she is "in control" - but it sounds mean! Maybe it "works???"

I still think we are wise to differentiate between words that build us up and words that slice us down. Our consciousness (or group) might say one thing about a word, but our inner feeling about a particular word landing on or in us can be - ouch!

for 1 week switch to words that build and love and celebrate. see what happens.

however, the challenge Whoopi + Ms. Lewis give us is to see the n-a word as a conscious switch-er-oo of a negative word turned-into an-endearing-one when used and understood in context. So that can be seen as "information" outside of judgment. so that could be one's loving word of choice.

They must be totally cool with it. Who knows he probably call her "Cara de plato" and ha hah haah funny..
maybe and expression of love and understanding.

Personally I might find it funny once or twice but not cute after that..

i think if the word was truly switched to an endearing word(the meaning) than it would be okay for everyone to use it

After I said the n word, I looked to see who heard me and only one person heard. He jokingly called me a racist, but I know that if everyone had heard, they would have all went against me and told me that I can't say that..

Next time, don't read to loud.
