Letter to President Obama

You know how the thinkers thought about the human relationship to the group. Take two thinkers and use them to speak to President Obama. Take one issue, e.g., Supreme Court, Domestic economy, GM, Foreign relations, Gay Marriage, Abortion, Race & Gender, etc. What do you say to him with the help of these two thinkers? He only has time to read one page. Extra take home final, 412 - not required. Optional.

So we write this paper in class on Monday?

Anon: well, you could - but why not write it at home and print it out? That is what "take home" means! Easier and more adult for all concerned.

All the thinkers thought about men, all applying themselves to a marketplace world without infusement of the Feminine. Now that our world is infused with women, what transpires in their thought? Durkheim would notice the softening of the Message. Marx would notice that the introduction of women into the marketplace halved the jobs and the salaries and created a larger lumpenproletariat. Weber would notice that the equalizing of the sexes was beginning to bring a reality to relationships. Simmel would notice that number is related to sex and gender and his patterns and forms would get more complicated. Mead would notice that the self built of I and me takes place in a gendered context. DuBois would sing a more elaborate song of the Dance of Veils.

It is also interesting to think what Marx would say about the communication technology in the work force today. With the increasing communication technology are we any closer to Marx’s desired form of contact/communication?
Currently we are never too far out of reach to be contacted. We are able to send and receive emails to our cell phones so when we leave our desks even to take a break we are still in contact. We talk on our phones regardless of the time, environment or company we are with. The boss many times is not physically there breathing down our throats at the job but with the increasing ability of technology and communication we never clock out of work. Therefore we are so consumed with the tasks we must accomplish that we are still as separate as ever and even more so an extension of the machines. We know we need to be connected and part of a group but have we gone too far? Am I to cynical about technology? Or is our desire and ability to be connected truly helping us?

Is the paper single or double spaced?

Make it easy on the President and hard on you: double spaced.
